Everyone has a frog to eat! What is your frog? Well that depends on what you have been procrastinating on…Many of us know there is something that we should do and absolutely dislike doing, but we always find a way to procrastinate. Mine is my taxes (I filed an extension) I have thought about them a ton and when I sit down to do them I think of something else to do So I putting my deadline for one week. What is it that you have to get done? Put a deadline on it and swallow that frog!
(there is a book called eat that frog, I have heard it is good, but have not yet read it, deals with procrastination)
What stops us from making the apology? Whatever the reason, most of it has to deal with some form of pride and not the healthy kind. Unhealthy pride can reside deep within ones heart for long periods of time and not be as blatant or obvious as other faults. An apology reveals humility.
Is there someone you might need to make an apology to? When we have issues that are unresolved, the only one it may be hurting is yourself. An apology is sometimes more for your sake than the person that you hurt.
We have been talking about temporary burdens and permanent ones (check out permanent burden blog post). I think many people have a difficult time finding their permanent burden (the one that disturbs them, keeps them up at night, and pushes them forward). I would say though that everyone has a common permanent burden and that is people. Whether you believe in God or not, relationships are always on the brain (whether its family, boyfriend/girlfriend, friends, or spouse). Everyone of us is geared towards relationships. Take a minute out of your day today and write someone an encouraging message! Don’t forget…no matter what you do, in the end it is all about loving God and people.
…Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” Matthew 22:37-40
Beware of the hype! What is hype? The dictionary defines it as a deception carried out for the sake of publicity. Yet, I think a different type of hype happens everyday with the beliefs that we hold in our mind. What do we believe about ourselves, about people, or about life? Why do we hold these perceptions? Our next series starting on July 20, called ‘The Bandwagon’, will talk about these issues…
We’re depending on God;
he’s everything we need.
What’s more, our hearts brim with joy
since we’ve taken for our own his holy name.
Love us, God, with all you’ve got—
that’s what we’re depending on.
Are you competitive? I did Strengthfinders 2.0 (a book that finds your strengths) and one of my strengths was competition. I love it! Yet, sometimes, it can be the wrong kind. When we compete against others it can easily turn in to jealousy or angst. If you are competitive, focus your competition and drive towards bettering yourself for God. You always win out on that one. (and not throw someone over a building
